Arrows in the Hands of a Warrior

Psalm 127:4-5a

Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.”

-Psalm 127:4-5a

I love the illustration of this verse. As dads, this is exactly how we should be thinking about our relationship with our children.

Just as a warrior draws back his bowstring to let an arrow fly, we must ensure that our children are adequately prepared when we release them into the world.

We must draw back the bowstring with intention and care, aiming toward the target of Christ.

When we let our children go, we are sending them to the “mark”—to the perfection of Jesus.

This doesn’t mean our children will be perfect. Our children will miss the mark in life. They will sin and fall short, just as we have fallen short.

But the closer we can direct our children to Jesus, and the more we can help them to avoid missing the mark, the more they will be equipped to avoid falling into sin.

What does it look like to aim your children at the target of Christ? How can you draw back the bowstring in an intentional manner to release your children with care and precision?
