Delighting in the Law of the Lord
Psalm 1:1-2
“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
-Psalm 1:1-2
The Bible tells us that our delight should be in “the law of the Lord” and that we should meditate on the Lord’s law “day and night.”
What does that mean?
It means that we should cherish and value God’s word. It means that we should actually adopt a lifestyle that aligns with the Bible, filling our life, both day and night, with scripture.
It’s easy to feel like we don’t have enough time to read the Bible. It’s easy to view the Bible as just a reference to be pulled off the shelf in times of need, rather than God’s living word that should be studied continually.
But we need to live in God’s word constantly. We need to saturate our lives with His law.
Meditating on God’s law might mean different things for all of us. To some, it may mean establishing a daily routine to read the Bible. To others, it may mean memorizing scripture. It could also mean spending time discussing and studying God’s word in community with others.
No matter how you choose to saturate your life with God’s law, the Bible is clear that following God’s law is necessary. Delighting in his law is not just optional—it is mandatory.
What does meditating on God’s law look like in your life?
